Episode 5 of Bible Secrets Revealed – “Mysterious Prophecies” – Airs Tonight, Dec 18 at 10/9c

Don’t miss episode 5 of the six-part series “Bible Secrets Revealed” on History.

The fifth installment, entitled “Mysterious Prophecies“, debuts Wednesday, Dec 18, 2013 at 10/9c .

The episode explores:

“Biblical prophecies are said to be messages and warnings sent from God, but what do they really foretell? Can they be decoded and used to predict mankind’s future?”

(The answer to the last part is, of course, no, but we’ll look at the nature of biblical prophecy and why misconceptions of prophecy are so prevalent in society.)

This will be followed by an encore airing of episode 4, “The Forbidden Scriptures”, at 11/10c.

If you missed the first four episodes, you can watch them for free online at History‘s “Bible Secrets Revealed” website.

And as a special Christmas gift: I’m pleased to announce that History has scheduled a Bible Secrets Revealed marathon for Christmas Day, Dec. 25. History will replay each of the episodes in order beginning with “Lost in Translation” at 5pm/4c, and the marathon will climax with┬áthe premier of episode 6 “Sex and the Scriptures” at 10/9c. The entire series will then re-air beginning at 11p/10c and continuing overnight in case you missed one of the episodes.

So spend this Christmas with friends, family, food, and Bible Secrets Revealed on History. You’ll be glad you did.

Remember to tweet your feedback with the hashtag #BibleSecretsRevealed.

(This has become a lot of fun, as many of the show’s participants (and critics) are live tweeting the episodes, and the many clever tweets have proven to be quite fun. Don’t miss out on your chance to ask questions and make comments with the over 1.3 million people who watch the show each Wednesday night.)

And send your questions to Bible History Daily, where I’ll be answering some of them and providing more in depth explanations of the material covered in the show.

a christmas tree so tacky, glenn beck would be proud

Boss Creations Glowing Cross "Put the Cross back in Christmas" Trees

Boss Creations Glowing Cross "Put the Cross back in Christmas" Trees. Now in "Natural" and "American Flag"

I simply don’t know what to say about this line of merchandise. A company, Boss Creations, has tried to put the ‘cross’ back in Christmas by selling Christmas trees with actual glowing crosses in them!!

And just when you thought Santa’s special troop of fundamentalist tacky elves couldn’t get any worse, Boss Creations has gone and Glenn Beck-ified Christmas by creating a red, white, and blue American flag Christmas tree, complete with glowing cross. Boss Creation’s new ‘Christian Nation’ Christmas tree (I kid you not, I’m not making this up) means they’ve gotten back to the true meaning of Christmas and put the ‘America’ back into Christmas.

(John 11:35)

Boss Creations "Christian Nation" Flier/Letter to President Obama

Seriously?

The existence of this product has forced me to create a new blog category entitled HOLY CRAP, because that is literally what garbage like this is: HOLY CRAP! Or, like Steven Colbert said, “It’s like George Washington and Jesus teamed up and declared independence from taste.”

They even took the time to write President Obama a letter. (I wonder if they’re Republicans?)

how not to do a christmas pageant

Church attendance is a topic that few ever admit to talking about, but church leaders usually do. There exists a balancing act between trying new things to drive up numbers and staying true to what works.

Regardless of your view on how church worship ought to look, the Christmas pageant always seems to be the one time where caution is thrown to the wind, and ridiculous things are tried in an attempt to one-up last year’s pageant (or the church down the street).

Therefore, for those of you thinking about bringing a live camel into a worship service…don’t do it!

Listen to the old Hollywood adage: never work with live animals!

why you should participate in advent conspiracy

reposting this post (just for jim west)

this holiday season you should participate in advent conspiracy.

The story of Christ’s birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.
So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists.

And when it’s all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas?

What if Christmas became a world-changing event again?

Welcome to Advent Conspiracy.

instead of buying gifts you feel are obligatory for people you marginally know, or buying your kids one more present just so they really know how much you really love them, how about taking them to volunteer at a soup kitchen so they can see how the other 90% of the world lives. nothing causes a children to appreciate how much you really love them than seeing what it’s like not to have loving parents, a home, a car, a wii, a nintendo ds, a mobile phone… you get the point. they don’t need one more silly gift to know that you love them. they need to see what it means to reach out to others in need.

advent conspiracy assists in bringing this about. giving to charity is the least you should do, if at all. instead of throwing money at a charity, go be the charity you want to see in the world. the single most effective way to make sure that 100% of your donation goes to help those in need is to go and help those in need personally.

so what are you waiting for?? put down your credit card, fill thy horn with oil, and go!!
