A&E has indefinitely suspended Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson after his anti-gay remarks.

Good for A&E. Bigoted Christian fundamentalism does not belong in the public realm.

“A&E has placed Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson on indefinite hiatus following anti-gay remarks he made in a recent profile in GQ.”

A&E issued the following statement:

“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,” A&E said in a statement. “His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”

Good. Bigotry has no place on TV, or in Christianity for that matter.

As I said earlier, they know the show is on the decline, and they have enough speaking engagements lined up in the conservative Christian community to make plenty of money and sustain their business for years to come.

“It seems that the Duck Dynasty folks have finally reached that point that Tim Tebow reached when he realized that he was approaching the final days of his “day job”, and he decided to leverage what was left of his popularity into one final evangelistic appeal before his time on the public stage was done. I believe that’s exactly what Robertson meant when he said: “Let’s face it. Three, four, five years, we’re out of here,” Robertson told GQ. “You know what I’m saying? It’s a TV show. This thing ain’t gonna last forever. No way.”

The sooner, the better.

World Peace Suspended for 7

World Peace Suspended for 7

World Peace is suspended the same day that Mad Cow Disease is confirmed in California. Coincidence?? Or the 1st sign of the Apocalypse??

(Either way, I’m guessing Giorgio says ALIENS!!!)

olbermann suspended indefinitely from msnbc – how long until he runs for office?

Keith Olbermannmsnbc’s keith olbermann has been indefinitely suspended without pay for making contributions to democrats.

cnn is reporting:

Keith Olbermann, MSNBC’s primetime firebrand host, has been suspended indefinitely for violating the ethics policies of his employer earlier this year when he donated to three Democrats seeking federal office, MSNBC announced Friday.

“I became aware of Keith’s political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay,” MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement.

i like olbermann (and not just because he was a sportscenter anchor). he’s wicked smart, clever, and sharp witted. he’s on air persona is over the top, but that’s because he’s attempting to balance to fox’s o’reilly and hannity. it was foolish, however, to let him do the election coverage. while cnn and fox did their best to make attempts at impartiality, msnbc attempted a bizarro world version of fox news’ pundit shows. it works for the ratings, but not on election night.

maybe fox news will offer him a contract like they did juan williams. it would make great publicity for fox news and would be a brilliant move on murdoch’s part.

the problem for olbermann and msnbc is not just the donations, which will cause some to cry conflict on interest although olbermann makes no attempt to disguise his liberal leanings on air just like fox news’ sean hannity makes no attempt to disguise leanings in the other direction. the problem is that olbermann railed against fox news’ donations to the republican governor’s association, which now appears hypocritical.

my only question is: how long until olberman runs for office? where does he live? i will say this for olbermann: it’s the quickest way out of his msnbc contract. in that regard, it’s a brilliant move if he wants to make the jump to politics (running, not commentating).

how to ruin your football career with one punch

regon running back LeGarrette Blount, left, punches Boise States Byron Hout.

Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, left, punches Boise State's Byron Hout.

legarrette blount’s football career is over, and his senior year was just getting started. the university of oregon tailback has been suspended for the entire season by his own team’s coach for punching boise state defensive back byron hout during the post game handshake and for continuing to act like a complete thug jackass after the altercation.

legarrette blount has ruined his football career with one punch. his own coach, chip kelley, has rightly suspended him for his entire senior season. the associated press reports:

On Friday he told a sobbing Blount of his decision: That punch would cost Blount the season, and ultimately his career with the Ducks.

“He understands that his actions are unacceptable. We will not put up with that,” Kelly said. “That is not the University of Oregon football, that is not the University of Oregon.”

kudos to coach kelly for standing up to this sort of reprehensible behavior and suspending blount. the decision to leave him on the team is even greater punishment. he was suspended from all games, but still remains on scholarship and on the team. this means that blount must come to practice and work hard every day, even though there is no chance he will ever play. given the fact that he was suspended last season and reinstated, only to be now re-suspended for the entire 2009 season, i’m guessing blount isn’t going to want to stick around and give that 100% effort that the coaches want in practice. blount will probably quit, and oregon will recoup its scholarship and award it to a far more deserving player. thus, by leaving blount on the team, they will get back the scholarship blount now holds, where as if they dismissed him from the team, he may have a claim to the scholarship. (not that he’s there for an education…)

as for his nfl career, what nfl team will touch him? nfl teams are beginning to see that the new england patriots model of team and character is better than the terell owens / chad johnson (or ochocinco or whetever his name is this week) system of tolerating idiots.

congratulations mr. blount. you just cost yourself literally millions of dollars in salaries and endorsements, not to mention the fame that comes with playing college and nfl football.
